A whole house fan can provide many complete air changes per hour for the home. Generally speaking the whole house fan will pull air from the house and pump it into the attic. Most attics are ventilated already. The negative pressure situation created by pulling air out of the home and pumping it into the attic will draw air in through all of the lower fenestrations. In other words, open the windows.
Usually the whole house fan is not used in the colder months, and a fan that can be well insulated during that time is important.
