Forest Steward Certified Wood Flooring

The Forest Stewardship Council certifies sustainably harvested wood products. The roughly 5% premium you pay for FSC wood ensures that it comes from well-managed forests.

Forest Stewardship Council certified wood products are sustainably harvested, ensuring the future of the forest as well as the health of the local ecosystem from where the trees were harvested. FSC lumber is available only in some markets, but availability and market share grows as demand for this ecologically responsible product grows. Generally a 5% premium is paid for FSC, which assures you that the wood you purchased has been sustainably grown and harvested.

Certified forestry principles include forest management practices that protect biological diversity, conservation of ancient natural woodland, long-term responsible management, and recognition of indigenous peoples’ and forest workers’ rights all through regular monitoring. There are a few third party certifications for wood available; however the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification is the only system that verifies “chain of custody” (COC) monitoring. COC guarantees certified wood through monitoring, reviewing and auditing of operations through the final point of sale of the end wood product. By purchasing certified material, you are encouraging more sustainable forest management practices.
